Asian Marylanders Back Hogan for Senate, Highlighting His Support During COVID and Beyond

Posted September 25, 2024 at 4:45 PM EDT
Maryland, one of the nation’s bluest state, could see a Republican Senator if its former Governor Larry Hogan manages to win this November. Some recent polls show a dead heat between him and Democratic candidate Angela Alsobrooks. Both candidates are actively courting support from Maryland's sizable Asian American communities, particularly in the D.C. suburbs. Many Asian Marylanders are unfamiliar with Alsobrooks, the Executive of Prince George's County, where the majority is Black American. However, they know former Governor Hogan well, especially for his support of the Asian American community in addressing the rise in anti-Asian hate crimes during the COVID-19 pandemic. Some Asian community leaders launched campaigns in support of Hogan.
